partially referenced from a photo of my old friend Dani, who has lost contact with me for quite a long time.
she was a flamenco dancer. i would love to be a flamenco dancer too but i think i can only draw flamenco dancer now :P

sketched and painted in photoshop 7.0. work in progress here

Q: I love the desaturated colours, they're what I would personally love to work with (even though I seem to fail at that), but for a flamenco dance, wouldn't vibrant colours fit a bit more and add to it?

flamenco is lively and happy, that i agree. the retro-feel color theme of this pic, though, seems to fit. first it is a long ago friend i am painting, secondly the freeze-a-moment sensation works well in monotone.

it was actually two photos i worked with. the upper torso's my friend, the lower (skirt and legs) belongs to another flamenco dancer i found from a stock (the dancer is a middle age lady who is quite buxom ^^;)
