the chinese text (in traditional chinese characters) quoted says:
the mountains end and the rivers run dry
the year of guisi 2nd month day 8
this idiom, though sounded pessismistic, is part of the verses that goes:
i come to the end of the mountains and the rivers run dry,
maybe that's the end of my journey.
but in the shadow of the willows and the brightness of the blossoms
i found another village.
it is a variation of the poem written by Lu You, from the southern song dynasty.
the extension of the meaning of these lines point to the endless possibilities that life offers and there is never an end even when the situation seems so hopeless.
