逆光のソレイユ撫でる君の髪
心を照らす謎の微笑み

against the light
your hair caresses
the sunflowers.
that mysterious smile
illuminate my heart.

this is a tanka i wrote to accompany the painting.
a tanka is a classical form of japanese poetry that follows a syllable-count of 5-7-5-7-7 in the japanese language. the english translation does not follow this rule.

soleil means the sun, as well as the sunflower in japanese. the girl looks as if she is incandescent, hence the title.
